My Lighthouse Page
I have recently been drawn to lighthouses. Friends of mine were crazy about them and I was always like yeah they are okay... now its a different story. I love reading the history about them and seeing them in person. I haven't been to many yet... but I am hoping that over the years I will be able to see many more in different states. I will include pictures of the ones that I have been too.
Other states that we have been to see lighthouses include: Virginia, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Delaware, New Jersey, Maine, New York and North Carolina. Six of those states were all involved in our North Carolina trip... when we came back home we tried to catch some lighthouses along the way... there were many that we didn't get a chance to get too... but as I say all the more reason to go back. Here are some pics of the ones that we did see....

We went to Charlotte, North Carolina for the NASCAR Coca-Cola 600 race in May of 1999. I was bound and determined that if I was in North Carolina, I was going to see Cape Hatteras. The next day after the race, we headed to the Outer Banks, North Carolina. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't all that cooperative when we were out there! The first day we checked in our hotel, they had heavy, heavy rains, high winds... it was horrid!! The next morning we were heading down to Cape Hatteras. They still had High Tide Alerts out pretty much all day and it was still rather gusty. We went to Currituck Beach Lighthouse and hung out for a bit and checked out the grounds. Then we continued down and ended up missing the turn for Bodie Island... but I said lets go down to Cape Hatteras and then we will come back to Bodie on the way back thru... thank God we did!!
Cape Hatteras is just amazing... I just got such chills... and I just didn't want to leave there! Unfortunately due to the weather it was closed for climbing... so that majorily bummed me out... but I climbed on the bottom of it for my picture... wow... I was just in awe!! Unfortunately we weren't able to get down to Orcacoke or Cape Lookout cause of the tides they weren't running the ferries. So we decided it was starting to get late we better start heading back up! Well being the little country bumpkins that we are... and totally clueless to high tides... we were in for a rude awakening!! Let me tell you I have never been so scared in my life... I'm sure the fact that I can't swim didn't help matters! Anyhow... we are driving back up to go to Bodie Island Light... and all of a sudden the road is just gone in sections... from the tide just starting to come in... holy cow!! I was never so happy to get back inland in my life!! But... I would still and I hope to still be able to get back down there again... as I would still love to climb Cape Hatteras... and I definitely want to see Cape Lookout!!

Both
of
these
lighthouses
are
on
the
Seaway
Trail
that
runs
along
the
Saint
Lawrence
Seaway
and
along
Lake
Ontario
all
the
way
to
Lake
Erie
in
Pennsylvania.
