I have been watching NASCAR since June of 1993... which unfortunately for me means that I didn't get to see much of Davey Allison race before he was killed in a helicopter crash on July 13th, 1993 on his way to Talladega Speedway.  Even though I had only watched racing for a month... that really bothered me.  Davey was just someone that was very likeable... he has always been sorely missed by me.

As far as who I ended up rooting for as my favorite driver... it was definitely Rusty Wallace!!!  I LOVED the black Miller Genuine Draft car... actually my ex husband and I were at a local dirt track and it was a championship race so there were drivers from other local dirt tracks racing there too... this guy came in with a modified dirt track car as number 2 and its sponsor was Miller Genuine Draft... well he ended up winning the race... but better yet for me was that he kicked the butt of the driver that I have never liked at that local track.  Then the next day I was watching a race and Rusty won in his black Miller car... and that was all it took for me!!

Of course then along came Jeff Gordon... who I ended up liking too... my two main drivers that I root for are Rusty and Jeff.  I do like MOST of the drivers... there were some exceptions of drivers that I loathed... namely Dale Earnhardt.  Though I have to admit when he was killed at the Daytona 500 in February of 2001, I was in shock.  Like most everyone that saw that accident... it didn't really look all that bad... we've seen so much worse by other drivers and then getting up and walking away.  After the race was over I ended up turning off the tv... it wasn't until a couple hours later I got a phone call from my brother telling me Earnhardt died.... I was like he did not... and he was adamant that yes he did... so I turned on the tv and most every channel was talking about it... I was shocked... and even though I never liked him... I would never wish that on anyone and I cried for days!!  I think out of the drivers that I have known that have been killed since I started watching racing... Davey Allison and Dale Earnhardt's have bothered me the most.

I haven't been to a lot of tracks... but I have managed to get to a few of them.

JB and I both want to get to Bristol and Richmond for races, but that probably won't happen for a couple of years... as next year we are getting married and we've been trying to have a baby.

Here are some pictures that I have taken over the years at the races or when show cars have come to my home town and a few drivers I have had the privilege of meeting.

Wow... November 10th, 2001, Mario Andretti was in our area promoting his Winery that he is involved in now that he is out of racing... though he didn't race NASCAR only but a couple of times... just to meet "The Mario Andretti" was so wicked cool!!  He is definitely a racing legend!!  Of course of all days for my camera to act up... ugh... but here's a picture of us together semi blurry... =(
